” Welcome to Start Surf!
Hey, I’m Tulsa, like salsa but with a T at the start T…ulsa. I’m the founder of Start Surf and the guy that will help answer all your surf related questions. Surfing became my passion and has taken me all over the globe, from Hawaii to Europe to the Maldives, even allowing me to work as a surf instructor at a Portuguese surf camp. One of the best things surfing has given me, is the opportunity to create Start Surf and operate it as the head coach. My mission is to provide personalised lessons, with specific individual feedback in a fun and encouraging atmosphere.
This year, 2017, I have had the privilege to make an amazing decision for our Start Surf family: we have a new addition to the team! With a huge amount of excitement, I would liked to introduce our new head coach….”
My name is Janiece, pronounced Jay-Niece, like nephew but niece (instead). I’m sorry in advance on Tulsas’ and my behalf for not giving you guys more simple names to wrap your heads around! But you can call me Jan for short. I’m going to be the new head coach of Start Surf and I will be trying to fill very big and beautiful shoes! I’m super excited to take on this position, and can’t wait to meet all the existing and new students of the Start Surf Family. 🙂
A little about me… I’ve been surfing for around 10 years now and have been teaching for 8 of those after I became one of the youngest surfing instructors to be qualified in WA. Surf coaching opened the door for me to travel the world and teach, not only in Perth, but in Indonesia, Portugal and the east coast of Australia. Surfing on the other hand has brought me to so many amazing places, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Europe and of course the islands of Indonesia…to name a few. Other cool surf-related projects I have been involved in are 2 particular non-for-profit programmes; A Liquid Future and The Fresh Air Project. Both gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in giving back to remote, indigenous communities around the world the gift of surfing. It’s allowed me to see countless warm and unforgettable ‘beginners’ smiles and for me, the best feeling in the world is seeing this smile! That is why I have never stopped giving surf lessons, after 8 years I love it more than ever and I want to continue teaching, travelling, facilitation programmes and overseas surfing trips, so that I can share that warming feeling with like-minded people. My mission at Start Surf, like Tulsa, is to provide personalised lessons, with specific individualised feedback in a fun and encouraging atmosphere…
I want to get that smile cracking! I look forward to meeting you all and if you have any question please never feel shy to ask!”
